At petgood, we love pets, but we also love our amazing planet – we're driven to reduce our four-legged family members' climate impact and global paw footprint. Our focus on sustainability has been the driving force behind our dog food revolution and the reason petgood was founded and launched our first product, a complete food based on insect protein. But our sustainability work is even bigger than that!
Alexander et al conducted a study in 2020 and came to the conclusion that the impact of the pet food industry are equivalent to an environmental footprint of around twice the UK land area, and would make greenhouse gas emission from pet food around the 60th highest emitting country, or equivalent to total emissions from countries such as the Philippines, a country with 110 million people.
CHALLENGE AND SOLUTION
Today, many people know that reduced meat consumption is one of the best ways to reduce their impact on the environment. But, what many do not know is that owning a dog can have the same climate impact per year as owning a car?
We have a solution to that: The power of insects!
Insects are amazing creatures. Did you know that they are extremely rich in proteins, and that they thrive on organic waste? They are one of our greatest upcyclers and can transform food waste into high-quality protein for your dog or cat, while putting far less pressure on our planet. Read more about the beneftis with insects for your dog, cat or our planet below, or dive deeper and learn about our insects and production.
We are happy to be a part of research and paving the way for insect-based pet food. That is why we are working closely together with Wageningen University & Research on a research project to further unlock nutritional benefits of insect-based pet food.
